Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Skierka

Elizabeth “Betty” Skierka, 83, Stevens Point, died Friday,
Feb. 24, 2017, after a courageous battle with leukemia.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday,
March 3, at St. Peter Catholic Church, with the Rev. Arul Joseph V officiating.


Visitation will be in the St. Faustina Room of the church from
9 to 10 a.m. Friday, with a parish rosary prayed at 10 a.m.


Shuda Funeral Services in Stevens Point and Plover assisted
with arrangements. Condolences may be offered online at www.shudafuneral.com.

Mrs. Skierka was born July, 8, 1933, at the Klismith
homestead farmhouse on Highway 10 east of Stevens Point, a daughter of the late
Frank and Mary (Kruzitski) Klismith. She attended the Stockton School House and
then St. Stanislaus School. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1950.

She worked at the First National Bank after high school
until 1960.

She was married to Frank Skierka Aug. 28, 1954, at St. Stanislaus
Catholic Church in Stevens Point.

She later was a bookkeeper for the family business.

She and her husband founded the Choraleers Polka Mass group
in 1979, and she was a member for 32 years. She was a vocal advocate of the Smongeski
Health fund that assists families in need to obtain vitamins, eyeglasses and
dental supplies in the city of Stevens Point. She was also an active member of
St. Peter Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Frank; six children, William
(Bill), JoAnn (Charlie) Rutta, Julie Belt, Mary (Dave) Kazmierczak, Barbara
(Jay Zellmer) and Robert; one sister, Amelia Glodoski; and four grandsons.

She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Regina
Prondzinski, Leona Bembenek and Kathleen Prondzinski; five brothers, Henry,
Ben, Ray, Frank and Ed Klismith; and one daughter-in-law, Laurie Skierka.
