Eugene “Gene” Laszewski, 88, Stevens Point, died Monday, Feb.
27, 2017, at Ministry St. Claire’s Hospital in Weston.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday,
March 4, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Jerzy Rebacz officiating.
Burial with full military honors will be in the parish cemetery.


Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. Saturday until
the Mass.


Memorials will be established for the Stevens Point Library,
St. Joseph Church, and the Wisconsin Endangered Resources Fund.


Shuda Funeral Services in Stevens Point and Plover assisted
with arrangements. Condolences may be offered online at www.shudafuneral.com.


Mr. Laszewski was born July 6, 1928, in Stevens Point, a son
of the late Felix and Clara (Repinski) Laszewski. He graduated from P.J. Jacobs
High School in 1947.


He entered the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War as a private
first class. He earned the Korean War Medal, United Nation Service Medal and
the 45-pistol sharp shooters medal, while serving in the Army 720th with the
Military Police.


He returned to the area after his honorable discharge.


He was married to Harriet Kostuch April 30, 1955, at St.
Peter Catholic Church. She died in 1996.


The couple settled in Stevens Point and raised their family.


He had a 34 year career with the Soo Line Railroad and
retired as a switchman in 1987.


Survivors include three children, Dr. Barbara (Carlos)
Williams, Seattle, Wash., Lynn (Tim Carey) Laszewski, Oak Park, Ill., and Tom
Laszewski, Hampton, N.H.; his companion, Gerry Zelhofer, Stevens Point; one sister,
Alice Krumrei, Stevens Point; one half-sister, Pat Bannach, Stevens Point; five
grandchildren; and one great-grandson.


He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Len and Don; and
one half-brother Mickey.
