Student Chamber Groups to Perform with Campus Band

Student chamber groups will perform as part of a Campus Band concert at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in March.
The concert will be held at 7:30 PM Thurs., March 9, at Michelsen Hall in the Noel Fine Arts Center. Conducted by Patrick Lawrence, associate professor of low brass and music education, the band has both music and non-music major instrumentalists.
The first half of the concert will be performances by four small chamber groups of music majors. They will perform “Little Concerto for Six Players” by David Maslanka; an all trombone piece, “Achieved is the Glorious Work” from “The Creation” by Joseph Haydn; a piece for wind instruments, “Suite Française” by Guy Woolfenden; and a work for horns, Quintet No. 1 in B minor Movement 1 by Victor Ewald.
The band will also perform “Café 512” by Ryan George, “Simple Gifts” by Frank Ticheli, “Walking to the Sky” by Robert Buckley, “Rain” by Brian Balmages and “Blackwater” by Fergal Carroll. Student apprentice conductors Jennifer Schraugnagel and Sydni Euclide will direct two of these works.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for senior citizens, $5 for UW-Stevens Point students, faculty and youth and free the day of the concert for students with a UW-Stevens Point I.D. if not sold out. Tickets also may be purchased at the door if available. Proceeds benefit student scholarships.
