Amherst’s Holderman places third at state, Villnow knocked out by injury

Ranked among the top wrestlers in their weight class,
Amherst High School juniors Bryce Holderman and Max Villnow will look to build
on their experiences from the WIAA Division 3 Individual State Tournament for
next year.
Holderman, ranked second in Division 3 at 195 pounds,
bounced back from a loss in the State Semifinals to place third, while Villnow,
ranked third at 220, suffered an injury in the State Quarterfinals that forced
him to withdraw from the rest of the State Tournament, which was held at the
Kohl Center in Madison Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 23-25.
“It was a good experience, going down and placing high,”
said Holderman. “But it was hard too, because my (practice) partner got hurt on
Friday.”
“I was pretty confident going in, I thought I could get
really far,” said Villnow. “And then that second period when I came down on my
arm, I knew right away that I was done.”
