Warren J. Lensmire

Warren J. Lensmire, 96, Stevens Point, died Saturday, March
4, 2017, at his home in St. John, Fla.
A Mass of a Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday,
March 18, at Holy Spirit Catholic Parish. Burial will be at Guardian Angel
Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. Saturday,
March 18, until the Mass.
A memorial will be established in his name.

Mr. Lensmire was born Oct. 31, 1920, in the town of Cassel
in Marathon County, a son of the late John F. Sr. and Lillian (Cizek) Lensmire.
He graduated from Marathon High School in 1938.
He began his working career as a cheese maker in the family
business at Cassel Garden Cheese Factory in Marathon.
He graduated in 1950 from Wisconsin State Teachers College,
earning a Bachelor of Education degree. He continued his education earning a library
science and a master’s degree in administration and supervision from the
University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison).
In 1940, he began his career teaching in a rural one-room
schoolhouse and in elementary and secondary schools in Wisconsin.
He was married to Grace Kaiser June 14, 1944, at St. John
Catholic Church in Edgar.
From 1955 to 1965m he was president of Wood County Teachers
College in Wisconsin Rapids.
He retired from UW-Stevens Point as a professor emeritus in
1985. Among his many awards was the Supervisor of the Year Award, presented by
the Wisconsin Association of Teachers.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years; five children, Mary (Rod)
Sobczak, Stevens Point, Paula Craig, Pagosa Springs, Colo., Richard (Christina)
Lensmire, Blue Grass, Iowa, Warren R. (Nancy) Lensmire, Ormond Beach, Fla., and
Lisa (Dan) Murman, St. Augustine, Fla.; two sisters, Winifred Kaiser, Weston,
and Joan (Lawrence) Wirkus, Edgar; one brother, John JR. (Lynn) Lensmire,
Marathon; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Calvin; and
one sister, Mae Gliniecki.
