Amherst girls basketball team’s run ends in Sectional Final

After battling back from a double-digit deficit in the
second half, the Amherst High School girls basketball team had its State
Tournament hopes and 20-game win streak come to an end in the WIAA Division 3
Sectional Finals Saturday, March 4.
The Falcons used a shot in the closing seconds from
sophomore guard Ashley Groshek to knock off fifth-ranked Freedom (20-5) in the
Sectional Semifinals at Seymour Thursday, March 2, and rallied from a 13-point
deficit in the second half against sixth-ranked Wrightstown (23-3) to pull
within 51-49 with 3:16 remaining in the Sectional Final at Green Bay Preble
