Eighth-ranked Almond-Bancroft boys basketball advances to Sectionals

Looking to make its first trip to the State Tournament
this season, the eighth-ranked Almond-Bancroft High School boys basketball team
kept its run alive with a pair of playoff wins at home last weekend to advance to
the WIAA Division 5 Sectional Semifinals.
The second-seeded Eagles (23-2, 17-1) won 69-59 over
seventh-seeded Port Edwards in a Regional Semifinal Friday, March 3, and then
beat third-seeded Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 77-65 in a Regional Final
Saturday, March 4.
Almond will take on fourth-ranked and top-seeded
Marshfield Columbus Catholic (21-2) in a Sectional Semifinal at Stevens Point
Area Senior High School (SPASH) at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 9, with the winner to
face either ninth-ranked and top-seeded Gresham Community (22-3, 17-1) or
third-seeded Lena (20-5) in the Sectional Final at D.C. Everest at 4 p.m.
Saturday, March 11, where a berth at state will be on the line.
