Letter: Proposed ObamaCare Replacement Only Benefits Wealthy

To the Editor-
For several years I listened to the arrogant rantings of Republicans as they bashed the Affordable Care Act, the program I was benefiting from, after years of being stuck in an expensive and substandard plan with a high deductible.
I finally felt satisfied and relieved that my healthcare needs were being met.
Now Paul Ryan and Trump get their turn. AARP, AMA and even Republicans are finding the replacement plan hard to swallow with its plan to roll back Medicaid expansion, and to raise premiums for older people, as they grant generous tax cuts to the wealthy. So much for Ryan’s “Act of Mercy”.
When Ryan was asked if 10 million people losing healthcare was acceptable to him he replied that what was important was that the new plan would lower costs and there would be more access to plans. What he didn’t say was that these lower costs and access would be for far fewer and that the poor, disabled and elderly would be out of luck since medicare benefits in the future would be jeopardized as well.
Thank you to Rep. Ron Kind, along with many others for standing up against this “Pay More for Less” program that is being pushed through Congress, without letting Americans know what the true cost will be, whether it be dollars or lives.
