New Assistant Police Chief Named, Sworn In
By Brandi Makusi
The Stevens Point Police Dept. has sworn in a new assistant chief.
Sgt. Mike Rottier is now Assistant Chief Rottier, one of two in the department. He replaces former Assistant Chief Tony Babl, who opted to move back to the Detectives Bureau, where he supervises investigations.
Rottier, a 20-plus-year veteran of the department, was named the new assistant chief by the Stevens Point Police and Fire Commission after a final, closed-session interview on March 7. He was sworn in before a standing-room-only crowd at the SPPD on March 8.
Rottier previously supervised the department’s all-volunteer Auxiliary Unit. He will now take on a more public role in the department, overseeing both patrol and training, with Assistant Chief Tom Zenner overseeing internal operations and administrative duties.
Rottier lives in Stevens Point with his wife and family.
