Alice Ruth (Vingen) Lindstedt, left us Tuesday, March 14 to join her husband, Russell, in eternal happiness.

Born Easter Sunday March 27, 1921, she touched the lives of so many people over 95 years of life. Married for 73 years, she was a devoted wife and homemaker. She was mother to five boys; Russell, Virginia Beach, VA, Gary, Delafield WI, Don (Deb), St. Paul MN, Bob (Mary), Plover, Scott, Rothsay MN, and one daughter, Chris (Bill) Jarvis, Wisconsin Rapids. She was the bedrock of the family, instilling her children with values and character that sometimes were tough lessons. Her children realize now she continues to live on through them as they raise her 21 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Russell, and infant son Lee.

After graduating from St. Mary’s Academy in Milwaukee where she was a tennis champion, she met Russ on a blind date. They fell deeply in love and were married October 3, 1941. Russ was sent overseas during WWII and his plane shot down over Poland. While he was a POW, Alice waited over a year for him to return home. After the war, they began their life together in Milwaukee, moving to Stevens Point in 1968. Here, Alice was active in the community and church. She was a member of the Stevens Point Area Garden Club where her passion for gardening led to many happy hours spent on the yard and gardens at their Dan’s Drive home. Alice and Russ were avid golfers; almost daily, you could find them enjoying a round together at Wisconsin River Golf Club. She volunteered many hours with the Wisconsin River Lioness, Meal On Wheels, and spent thousands of hours volunteering with St. Michael’s Hospital Auxiliary. She was a lay minister and a member of the St. Stephen’s Choir and could be counted on to lend a hand wherever needed. It is impossible to describe the impact Alice had on everyone she met. Everything she did set a shining example to follow; from her marriage commitment to her husband, to her selfless love for family and friends, to making sure her boys grew up to be gentlemen and that all her children used proper grammar and knew how to set the dinner table. There is no doubt her legacy will live on.

The family would like to thank Alice’s dear friend Janet for the many hours of companionship she provided over the years, also thanks to the staff at Wellington Place, Biron, WI for their many years of care for both Alice and Russell and finally, extend our gratitude to Ministry Home Care for the exceptional and compassionate care Alice received during the last months of her life on earth.

A celebration of Alice’s life will take place on Monday, March 20th, 2017 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Stevens Point, WI. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Church; followed immediately by a 10:30 am Funeral Mass. Alice will be laid to rest next to Russell at St. Stephen’s Parish Cemetery following mass. Following the graveside service, family and friends will be invited to reminisce, laugh, cry and share memories and stories about the exceptional woman that was Alice. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.
