SPASH completes three-peat with State Championship rout

The Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) boys
basketball team turned in a dominant performance Saturday, March 18, to claim
its third consecutive WIAA Division 1 State Title.
After holding on for a 48-41 win over seventh-ranked Madison
Memorial (23-4) in a WIAA Division 1 State Semifinal at the KohlCenter in
Madison Friday, March 17, the sixth-ranked Panthers put Hartland Arrowhead
(22-6) away early in the State Championship Game Saturday night.
SPASH jumped out to a 13-0 lead to start the game and blew
the game open with a 28-point lead at halftime, as the Panthers (24-4) went on
to an 85-56 victoryto tie the largest margin of victory in a WIAA Division 1
State Championship Game and bring home the State Title.
“Getting into our rhythm and now finally clicking at the
right time, it’s just really special,” said junior forward Joey Hauser. “That
whole game, you wanted to be out there for every second of it.”
“The last two, three weeks, we really took off and played
outstanding basketball leading into the State Tournament,” said SPASH boys
basketball head coach Scott Anderson. “And we were excellent the last couple
days down there to win the title.”
