County to Consider Groundwater Protection Ordinance

City Times Staff
A Portage Co. subcommittee will discuss the potential for a new countywide groundwater protection ordinance on March 30.
It’s the second meeting for the newly-created Groundwater Protection Ordinance Subcommittee, which will include presentations from groundwater experts and agricultural representatives.
The subcommittee previously decided to hold a discussion on existing federal, state and local levels dealing with the proposed ordinance, and could eventually make a recommendation to the county on what form the ordinance should take.
“The outcome of this process will be to provide recommendations to GCAC (Groundwater Citizens Advisory Committee) on what should happen with this ordinance as well as any other recommendations to address the identified issues,” a memo from the county’s water resource specialist, Jen McNelly, reads in part.
The meeting will be held at 5 PM in the Lincoln Center, 1519 Water Street.
