Leonard E. Perlak

Leonard Eric Perlak, 82, Stevens Point, passed away
peacefully Thursday, April 6, 2017, at Rennes Rehabilitation in Weston while
under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care Hospice and the caring staff at Rennes.
Leonard was born Dec. 30, 1934, in Stevens Point. He was the
son of the late John and Lilian (Gazda) Perlak.
He attended local schools and graduated from P.J. Jacobs
High School.
He married the former Theresa Lorbeck Nov. 2, 1957, at St.
Mary’s of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Fancher. She preceded him in death Dec.
4, 2011.
Leonard was hired May 1, 1959, as a police officer with the
Stevens Point Police Department. He was promoted to corporal in 1966, to sergeant
in 1967, lieutenant in 1972 and to captain in 1983 until his retirement May 1,
1992. He faithfully served 33 years with the Stevens Point Police Department.
Throughout his retirement, he served as a District 4
alderman from 1998 to 2000. He also worked as a bailiff for the Portage County Courts
and was a bartender for a number of years for Kim’s Barrel Inn.
He was a member of St. Peter’s Church and the Monsignor
McGinley Council 1170 Knights of Columbus. Leonard was an avid motorcyclist and
was a member of the American Motorcycle Association and the Cobra Riders in the
50s and 60s. He was honored to become one of the first motorcycle officers
along with Ray Potocki for the Stevens Point Police Department.
As his family grew, he put his riding aside to raise his
family. In his later years, once again he owned a Harley Davidson and enjoyed
riding together with his wife Terri, children, friends and his riding buddy
Gary Losinski.
He also enjoyed boating, fishing and vacationing with his
family, and an occasional visit to the Casino. He also loved playing the
accordion with Ray Potocki at county bars, one in Babcock and another in
Marshfield.
While he enjoyed and loved all of his grandchildren, Lily
had a very special place in his heart, they enjoyed keeping an eye out for one
another.
Survivors include his loving family and three sons, Randal
(Jane) Perlak, Alan (Chris) Perlak, both of Stevens Point, and Kevin (Dawn)
Perlak, Prescott, Ariz.; three daughters, Lynn (Craig) Perlak, Appleton, Dawn
(Rodney) Flatoff-Perlak, Wautoma, and Lisa Perlak, Stevens Point; 13
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one sister Del Bilotti, Manitowoc.
