Scouting for Food, Cookout Big Success

Local Boy Scouts had a busy weekend.
Scouts from Mushkodany District of the Boy Scouts of America spent Saturday sorting and transporting more than 15,000 of food, part of the annual Scouting for Food program.
Now in its 29th year, the program involves scouts placing specially-marked plastic bags in mailboxes and on residential doorknobs in neighborhoods across the area. About a week later, the scouts return to collect donations left in the bags, comprised of nonperishable food, household or personal care items.
“This project provides much-needed food to stock local food pantry shelves,” said Bill Jenkins, district chair, adding the items would be divided between six local food pantries.
Scouts sorted the items at the Noel Hanger of the Stevens Point Municipal Airport.
Elsewhere in the area, Cub Scout Pack 265 held a brat fry, with proceeds paying for their summer camp.
Troop 298 also held their annual cookout at Holy Spirit Parish, formerly known as St. Stanislaus Church. That event coincides annually with the Destination Imagination tournament held at UW-Stevens Point.
