Sister M. Edward Meronek
Sister M. Edward Meronek, 92, a Sister of St. Joseph of the
Third Order of St. Francis for 77 years, died Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at
Willow Brooke Point in Stevens Point.
Visitation at St. Joseph Motherhouse Chapel, 1300 Maria
Drive, Stevens Point, will begin with a prayer service at 9:30 a.m. Monday,
April 17. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with the
Rev. Todd Mlsna officiating. Burial will follow in the convent cemetery.
The former Angeline Meronek was born March 22, 1925, in
Plainfield. She was the youngest of 11 children born to Frank and Frances
(Kenowski) Meronek.
Sister Edward was received into the novitiate of the Sisters
of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis on Aug. 6, 1940, and professed
final vows Aug. 5, 1947. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy, and earned a
Bachelor of Science in Education Degree from St. Norbert College, De Pere.
She touched the lives of many children in 51 years as a
teacher or principal in Catholic Schools in Independence, Menasha, Thorp, Owen,
Milwaukee and St. Peter and St. Stanislaus Schools in Stevens Point.
She retired from teaching in 1993, but remained active in
serving the elderly and homebound of St. John Parish, Menasha, until 2001 when
she retired at the Motherhouse in Stevens Point.
Sister Edward is survived by nieces, nephews and the Sisters
of St. Joseph-TOSF.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Peter,
Ben, Michael, Felix and Theodore Meronek; sisters, Sophie Cisewski, Ann
Kaminski, Evelyn Withers, Martha Zblewski and Regina Markhardt.
Memorials may be offered to the Sisters of St. Joseph-TOSF.
