USSA disabled veteran turkey hunt held April 8

The Almond Rod and Gun Club held its fifth annual United Special Sportsman Alliance (USSA) disabled veteran turkey hunt Saturday, April 8, in the town of Almond area. By lunch on Saturday, three hunters – (kneeling from left) Jim Henschel, Eigene Fosmire and Edmund Williams – bagged three toms, Williams with the largest weighing in at 20 pounds. The program seeks to provide disabled veterans who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to hunt a chance to get out and hunt. This year, eight hunters went out in total on nearly 20,000 acres of land mostly within 10 miles of Almond. The Helen Brachman Camp donated its facilities as a headquarters for the day. After the photo was taken, one more hunter bagged a turkey Saturday and two more hunters bagged their turkeys Sunday. In total, six of the eight hunters went home with birds.
