SPASH boys track earns another WVC Title with 78-point win

The Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) boys track
team rolled to the Wisconsin Valley Conference (WVC) Indoor Title at the
University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) Multi-Activity Center
Tuesday, April 11.
Junior Liam Belson won the 1,600 run and 800 run and senior Derek
Franz won the 3,200 run to lead the Panthers, who also won each of the three
relay events and had 21 top-four finishes by individuals in the meet.
That helped SPASH rack up 182 points, as it beat Wisconsin
Rapids Lincoln (104), Wausau West (102) and D.C. Everest (101) to claim its 13th
WVC Indoor Title in the last 14 years.
“Winning conference is always tough,” said SPASH boys track
head coach Kevin Streveler. “We’ve won this thing now 13 out of 14 years, which
is real impressive, but it also puts a huge bulls-eye on your back, because
everybody else is tired of us taking home this plaque.
“So it’s cool, the kids worked really hard and they deserved
to win,” he said.
