Celebrate Star Wars with Costumes, Sci-Fi Author, Trivia

The Portage County Public Library is holding at Star Wars celebration at locations in Stevens Point, Plover and Rosholt.
The Rosholt and Plover branch libraries invite children to celebrate on Thursday, May 4, referred to as Star Wars Day or “May the Fourth Be with You” day. Children should come in costume as their favorite Star Wars character.
During Jedi “training”, children will craft light sabers and practice using the Force.
The Rosholt event starts at 4 PM at the Rosholt Branch Library, 137 N. Main Street. The Plover event starts at 4:30 PM at the Plover Library, 2151 Roosevelt Drive.
In Stevens Point, people of all ages are invited to celebrate Star Wars on Saturday, May 13 at the downtown library.
“Star Wars has become one of our most popular and pervasive ‘modern myths’,” said Eddie Glade, public services librarian. “It is the ancient hero’s quest of good vs. evil and personal transformation, but transferred into a futuristic world where anything seems possible. It’s one of those stories you can’t help feeling a connection with and wanting to be a part of.”
Patrons are invited to come in costume as their favorite Star Wars character. All costumed attendees will be entered into a drawing to win a Star Wars graphic novel (donated by Galaxy Comics, Games, and More).
Other activities are as follows:
10 AM- Free showing of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
12:30 PM- The young, and young at heart, are invited to make Star Wars crafts (also available throughout the day).
1 PM- John Jackson Miller, author of many Star Wars, Star Trek, and other sci-fi franchise novels and comic books, will give a presentation about writing for Star Wars. There will be a Q&A session, followed by the opportunity to purchase Miller’s books and/or have them signed.
3 PM Participate in the Star Wars Trivia Contest. The winner will receive a prize donated by Out of the Box Hobby.
All activities will take place in the Pinery Room on the main floor of the Stevens Point Library.
