Brooks earns 500th win at Rosholt

On the field named after him, Rosholt baseball head coach
Jack Brooks recorded his 500th career win Thursday, April 20.
With a 4-3 lead on Menominee Indian heading into the bottom
of the fifth inning at Brooks Field, Rosholt rallied for nine runs to win 13-3 in five innings, as Brooks
became the 10th spring baseball coach in state history to win 500 games.
“That’s just amazing if you start doing the math and how
many years it takes,” said former Rosholt assistant coach Kevin Limberg. “And
there was a time where we only played 10, 11 games a year, so you think about those
years, and then you think about how many years he’s done it.
“And it’s pretty impressive, there’s no doubt about it,” he
said.
“It’s a number, but at the same time, it’s fun to get
there,” said Brooks. “(Former players) were here watching, and when you look at
all of the guys that played in the program and they come back now and they’ve
got families, a lot of their kids play now and some of them are here and you’re
coaching their kids, it’s a big thing.
“And the thing we’ve done over the years is try to get the
kids focused on going to college and getting good grades,” he said. “You push
the grades, it’s not just the baseball, it’s all about character building. You
build good character, you build a good program and your kids do well, and
that’s what you work for.”
