City to Hold Arbor Day Plantings
For the City Times
Stevens Point has two tree planting celebrations commemorating Arbor Day this year.
The first is on Friday, April 28, as Washington Elementary third-graders will help city forestry staff plant 10 Decaffeinated Kentucky Coffee trees along St. Paul Street at 11 AM.
Ten trees will be planted in the city boulevard. The Kentucky Coffee trees will be replacing 10 green ash removed preemptively due to arrival of Emerald Ash Borer to Stevens Point. The trees will help increase the city’s goal to diversify its street tree population. American Transmission Company is helping fund the trees.
The second planting will take place by the courthouse, at the corner of Arlington Pl. and Strongs Ave. on Tue., May 2 at 8:30 AM. Stevens Point Mayor Wiza and Portage County Executive Patty Dreier will plant a butterfly magnolia tree.
The planting will represent the benefits of trees to both city and county residents.
