UPDATE: Driver ID’d in Fatal Saturday Crash

City Times Staff
Authorities from Portage Co. have released the identity of Saturday’s fatal car crash victim.
Investigators from Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office completed their investigation on Monday, and say Manawa resident Deric Hahn, 33, was pronounced dead on the scene of the single-car crash on the 1500 block of North Second Dr. on April 29.
A caller reported the crash at about 4:20 AM on Saturday. Hahn’s vehicle, a 2011 Toyota Highlander, was found lying on its roof in a yard near Jordan Road.
Hahn was the sole occupant of the vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Investigators determined Hahn was traveling north on N. Second Dr. when he entered the east ditch, continuing through a yard and striking a decorative wall, a mailbox, and then a tree. His vehicle then flipped and landed on its roof.
Speed and alcohol were factors in the incident, according to the news release.
“Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Mr. Hahn,” the release reads in part.
The crash marks the third fatal traffic collision in Portage County for 2017; the second in which alcohol and speed were factors. There was only one fatal crash in Portage County in 2016 and two in 2015.
“The sheriff’s office urges all motorists not to drive after consuming intoxicating beverages,” the release says.
The Stevens Point Police Department, Portage County Ambulance, Portage County Coroner, Metro Fire and Metro Rescue assisted with the crash.
