Celebration will honor Krueger for 40-year career

A celebration in honor of Scott Krueger’s 40th
anniversary as the voice of local sports in Portage County will be held at
SentryWorld Thursday, May 18.
The radio play-by-play announcer for University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) and other area high school sports teams, Krueger
will be on hand for a meet and greet that is free and open to the public from
4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
Fans, friends and listeners are encouraged to attend,
with light hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar available, while midway through the
evening UWSP men’s basketball head coach Bob Semling and Krueger’s best friend
and longtime broadcast partner John Zellmer will share memories of Krueger’s
career.
“He’s the voice of the Panthers, the voice of the
Pointers, the voice of the Cardinals, and in many cases, he’s been the voice of
the Falcons at Amherst,” said SPASH football head coach Pete McAdams. “He does
all of the sports, and he’s been a huge ambassador for our athletic programs,
as well as the athletes in our community.”
“What they’re doing is really well thought out,” said
Semling. “People can come out and visit, and say hello to Scott and visit with
other people, and it’ll just be a really nice community celebration and a great
opportunity for all of us to honor Scott.”
