Point native Fluguar advances to NCAA Tournament with Wisconsin softball team

Point native and former Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) standout
Brianna Flugaur will compete in the NCAA Division Tournament this week as a
member of the University of Wisconsin softball team, which will play on ESPN at
8 p.m. Central Thursday, May 18, against the University of Missouri (29-28).
The
Badgers (33-15) received an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament for the first
time since 2014 and will compete in the four-team, double-elimination Regional
in Eugene, Ore., Thursday through Sunday, May 18-21. The winner of Thursday’s
game against Missouri will face either third-ranked Oregon (47-6) or
Illinois-Chicago (38-20).
A
junior outfielder, Flugaur has started 22 games this season for the Badgers and
is batting .176, while she leads the team with 19 stolen bases, which ranks
third in the Big Ten this season.
The
winner of the Regional will advance to the Super Regional Thursday through
Sunday, May 25-28, where two teams will play a best-of-three series for a trip
to the NCAA Women’s College World Series.
