New Summer Camp to Offer Acting, Video and Writing Classes

Do you have dreams of becoming a filmmaker, writer, actor or animator? Get started by learning skills from expert faculty and staff in a new summer camp offered by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Created for students ages 11-15, Point Ed Summer Camp will be offered July 17-21 and July 24-28, during the same weeks as the American Suzuki Institute. Siblings of Suzuki students are invited to attend, as well as others from the community. UW-Stevens Point Continuing Education and the College of Fine Arts and Communication are sponsoring the camp.
Select from the following classes July 17-21:
· Morning, 8-11 a.m.
o Point Actor’s Combat Studio – Learn how actors create the illusion of realistic fighting.
o Point Actor’s Studio – Learn techniques on bringing a character and script to life.
o Disney Princesses: Is it Always Happily Ever After? – Explore the history of Disney princesses and turn one into your own 21st Century creation.
· Afternoon, 1-4 p.m.
o Audio Theatre Production – Learn how Foley artists create sounds to tell a story.
o Smartphone Journalism – Learn how to use your phone camera to tell a story.
Select from the following classes July 24-28:
· Morning, 8-11 a.m.
o Animation Production – Create an animation project with professional video techniques.
o Creative Writing: Quotes, Illustrations, Observations, Single Words – Learn how to use different forms of writing.
o Harry Potter’s School of Cooking Wizardry – Make treats such as Hagrid’s stew, butterbeer and Golden Snitch cake. Harry Potter attire encouraged.
· Afternoon, 1-4 p.m.
o Video Production – Operate video and editing equipment to create your own story.
o Improv and Creative Problem Solving – Learn how to think on your feet while having fun with improvisation games.
o Harry Potter’s Garden Magic 101 – Learn about magical herbs and plant your own Harry Potter-inspired garden. Harry Potter attire encouraged.
Each class costs $200 including materials. Take two classes during the same week for $350.
