VIDEO: A Late Memorial Day Salute

Coast Guard Veteran Michael “Gunner” Pohl drops a memorial wreath into the Wisconsin River from the Clark St. bridge on May 30.
Pohl said it was a late Memorial Day tribute. The wreath — a biodegradable piece made by Bev’s Floral — is traditionally dropped into the river by a small plane during the city’s Memorial Day service at Pfiffner Pioneer Park.
The Memorial Day program was held on Monday; but this year, gusty winds didn’t allow for the plane to fly overhead.
Pohl said the wreath symbolizes the memory of those who served in the naval services, “Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Navy…for those who died at sea and in combat.”
