Police Called to False Alarm on South Side

By Brandi Makuski
Police responded in force on Thursday to a south side home after a caller reported being held captive by an intruder.
At least five squad cars from the Stevens Point Police Dept., along with several officers, responded to a home on the 3000 block of Rice St. shortly before 3 PM on June 1. Witnesses near the scene say they saw officers enter the home with their weapons drawn.
The home was cleared after several minutes, and officers concluded there was no intruder.
According to Assistant Chief Mike Rottier, officers found no evidence to support the caller’s version of events, and the caller was not in any danger.
Rottier declined to give further details, saying the department “wants to be sensitive and supportive of the individual.”
“We do not believe the public is in any danger,” Rottier added.
Police were on the scene for just under two hours.
