Point Artist to Compete on Syfy’s ‘Face Off’

By Joe Bachman
One of Stevens Point’s own will be featured on national television Tuesday.
Suzanne Bostwick will be one of 12 artists to compete in the 12th season of the SyFy Channel’s popular “Face Off”. The show features special effects and makeup artists from around the globe who compete in a series of challenges for a grand prize — and to be dubbed one of Hollywood’s next “great effects artists”.
Bostwick grew up in Miami, where she has been creating art all of her life; much of which she credits to her mother, an art teacher. Bostwick attended art school for four years and made a living as a freelance artist — but it was when her family moved to Pennsylvania that she discovered her love for sculpting.
“I found a client in a spa-resort that needed a ‘fantastical experience’ of Alice in Wonderland,” she said. “So I started sculpting for them on a contract, and from there my love for it just grew and grew.”
Bostwick soon attended the Tom Savini Special Makeup Effects Program where she was top of her class, and when her family packed up to move to Stevens Point, she put her skills to good use. Bostwick has created many props and puppets for Central Wisconsin Area Community Theatre, (cwACT) for productions of “Little Shop of Horrors”, “Shrek” and “Into the Woods”.
“They [cwACT] have encouraged me and supported me ever since I moved here,” said Bostwick. “They have been incredible — and they opened up the opportunity to showcase my artwork and I wanted to recognize them for their support. There are tons of talent here, and I’m proud to be a part of what is going on in Stevens Point.”
For Bostwick, the third time’s a charm, as her first two attempts to get on “Face Off” were unsuccessful, however, she made it on this season after her third time trying out.
“It was a wonderful experience to be on there and to show my work to professionals,” said Bostwick. “It was an amazing once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
Bostwick will also be heading a haunted house in October called “Mind of Madness”.
The show will air Tuesday, June 13 on the Syfy channel at 8 PM.
