SPASH shuts out Sun Prairie in State Quarterfinals

With a trip to the WIAA Division 1 State Semifinals on the
line, the Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) softball team jumped
out early to beat 10th-ranked Sun Prairie in the WIAA Division 1 State
Quarterfinals at Goodman Diamond in Madison Thursday, June 8.
The eighth-ranked Panthers (24-6) scored three runs in the
top of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead on Sun Prairie (23-4) and went on to
a 6-0 win, as junior pitcher Andrea Cherney tossed a complete-game, four-hit
shutout Thursday afternoon.
“It was great,” said Cherney. “I knew I was going to start
the game a few days ago, and it was exciting, because I’m being given the
opportunity to show that I can play with these guys, and I can play with the
top teams in the state.”
