Police in Stevens Point are investigating a reported shooting in the Downtown District on Saturday night.

Witnesses at Rockies Bar, 929 Main St., said at least one person began firing shots during a wedding celebration being held there.

Sgt. Greg Bean said at about 11:15 PM, dispatchers received “several 911 calls of an active shooting” at the bar. The incident reportedly began during a physical altercation between a group of people at the celebration, and escalated from there, he said.

Bean said “all available units” from SPPD, Plover Police Dept. and the Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.

“It was an awesome response; we had 15, 20 cops here in a matter of, I don’t know, maybe two minutes,” he said, adding several suspects had already fled the scene when officers arrived.

There were no reported injuries associated with shooting, he added.

One person at the bar was taken to the Stevens Point Police Dept. for questioning, according to Assistant Police Chief Tom Zenner.

Three additional people were taken into custody after police located a suspicious vehicle reported to have left the bar immediately following the shooting, Zenner said. The vehicle was located near Main St. and Country Club Dr. shortly after the shooting was reported.

By 2:10 AM on Saturday, Zenner said all four people being questioned had been released, but believes no one is in danger. Two handguns have been recovered by investigators, he said, but no arrests have yet been made.
