City Times Staff
The National Weather Service has confirmed a small tornado struck Stockton on Wednesday night.
The EF0 tornado — characterized by 65-85 mph winds — touched down Wed. night not long after weather spotters reported seeing a funnel cloud at about 8:45 PM.
The area impacted was near Custer Rd. south of 6th St. during a short but intense thunderstorm on July 12 that brought just under one inch of rain to the area in less than an hour.
Officials from Portage Co. Emergency Management met with the property owner on Thursday. According to a news release, the track of the tornado was about one mile long, travelling southwest.
Damage to crops and one agricultural building was reported.
A video of the funnel cloud was captured by a storm spotter and is available on the Portage County Emergency Management Facebook page, along with several additional photographs.
