The Point Fastpitch 14U girls kicked off their bid for a 2017 championship in the Point Fastpitch tourney going 1-1 in pool play on Friday.

Point took game one 4-2 over the Wisconsin Rapids Rage, falling behind 1-0 after the first inning Ally Kleiner and Emily Grezenski crossed the plate off a 2-run RBI single by Emma Van Order. Van Order then scored off a line shot to center field by Christina Pliska to put point up 3-1 after two.

Autumn Kawlewski came through with an RBI single in the seventh inning to seal the win.

Rachel Gidlund went the distance on the mound for Point striking out two.

“I thought I pitched and played well,” said Gidlund. “I was hitting all my spots. I had good back-up behind me the whole game with a shout out to Morgan Przybelski in the field, catcher Ally Kleiner, and Emily Grezenski at first.

Point got up early on the Appleton Rockers in game two when Morgan Przybelski drew a bases loaded walk to plate Emily Grezenski. Christina Pliska stepped to the plate slapped a single to up the lead to 2-0 after two innings of play.

Maggie Lawrynk scored in the third off a triple to the right-center field fence by Autumn Kawlewski who then scored on a fielder’s choice to put Point up 4-0.

The Rocker bats came alive in their half of the third scoring three runs, then broke the game open with five more runs in the fifth for the final 8-4 score.
