Two Displaced After Saturday Apartment Fire

Two people have been displaced following a Saturday afternoon fire.
Metro Fire crews — consisting of firefighters from Stevens Point, Plover and Hull — responded to a reported fire in an upstairs residence at Pine View Apartments, 632 Second St. North, at 2:51 PM on July 15.
“We knocked the fire down and had it under control at 15:04 (3:04 PM),” said Capt. J.B. Moody with the Stevens Point Fire Department.
Moody said there was no obvious signs of fire when crews first arrived, but after a quick check of the entire exterior firefighters saw black smoke from one side of the building.
“We knew we had a working fire at that time,” Moody said. “We did an offensive attack on it, stretched an inch-and-three-quarter line from Ladder 1.”
The apartment’s two residents were not home at the time of the fire, Moody said, and firefighters had to force their way into the residence. Other tenants were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Moody said.
