Sister Marie Bruski
Sister Marie (Bernarda) Bruski, 94, a Sister of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis for 77 years, died Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at Willow Brooke Point in Stevens Point.
Visitation was Monday, July 24, at St. Joseph Motherhouse Chapel, 1300 Maria Drive, Stevens Point. A Mass of Christian Burial followed, celebrated with the Rev. Todd Mlsna officiating. Burial followed in the convent cemetery.
Sister Marie was born Feb. 9, 1923, in Stevens Point, the first of nine children of the late Joseph and Helen (Cadman) Bruski. On Aug. 6, 1940, she was received into the novitiate of the Sisters of St. Joseph-TOSF, and professed final vows on Aug. 6, 1947.
She graduated from St. Joseph Academy and earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Alverno College, Milwaukee.
Sister Marie was a dedicated teacher/principal for 48 years in Catholic elementary schools in Wisconsin.
After teaching for 11 years at St. Therese School in Schofield, she remained active in the parish for five years in service as Coordinator of Religious Education. In 1996, she retired at St. Joseph Motherhouse in Stevens Point.
Survivors include her sisters, Shirley Nall and Arlene (Richard) Roth; brothers, Robert, David (Doris), James (Barbara); sister-in-law, Ann; nieces, nephews and the Sisters of St. Joseph-TOSF.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Helen; brothers, Philip, Richard, Frederick; sisters-in-law, Lenora, Shirley, Beverly; and brother-in-law, Lloyd Nall.
