John Paul Mallick

John Paul Mallick, 90, Stevens Point, died Friday, July 21, 2017, at the Portage County Health Care Center.
He was born Aug. 26, 1926, and was raised in Stevens Point by his aunt and uncle, Regina and George Lepinski.
He was a proud World War II Army veteran, serving in the Philippine Islands. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, and the American Service Defense, Asiatic Pacific Theater, and Philippine Liberation ribbons. He was honorably discharged Nov. 22, 1946. One of his greatest moments was participating in the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., with his son, Rhody.
He was married to Margaret Marie Dalsbo on April 15, 1950, at St. Peter’s Church. He was employed at Palace Bakery as a baker for 14 years, a craft he learned while serving in the Army. He later worked and retired from the Stevens Point Area Public School District as the head custodian at McDill Elementary.
In 1972, John and Marie purchased Top Hat Bar, which they ran for many years.
He enjoyed playing golf, shooting pool, throwing horseshoes, bowling and fishing. He loved playing cards with his wife, watching the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers. His best and most cherished moments were spending time with family.
He is survived by his wife, Marie; five children, Linda (Greg) Chase, Stevens Point, Rhody (Jean Jakusz) Mallick, Stevens Point, Karlyn (Kevin) Krautkramer, Stevens Point, Michelle (Robert) Schmidt, Waconia, Minn., and John Jay (Kristine) Mallick, Stevens Point; four grandchildren, Shana (Andrew) Halverson, Jaylyn Mallick, Maxwell Schmidt and Samuel Schmidt; and three great-grandchildren, Alexander, Mason and Elise Halverson.
A private family burial will take place at Guardian Angel Cemetery. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
