John Paul Mallick, 90, of Stevens Point, passed away peacefully at the Portage County Health Care Center on July 21, 2017.

He was born August 26, 1926, and raised in Stevens Point by his aunt and uncle, Regina and George Lepinski. John was a proud WWII Army veteran, serving in the Philippine Islands. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, and the American Service Defense, Asiatic Pacific Theater, and Philippine Liberation ribbons. He was honorably discharged on November 22, 1946. One of his greatest moments was participating in the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. with his son, Rhody.

He married Margaret Marie Dalsbo on April 15, 1950, at St. Peter’s Church. He was employed at Palace Bakery as a baker for 14 years, a craft he learned while serving in the Army. He later worked and retired from the Stevens Point Area Public School District as the Head Custodian at McDill Elementary. In 1972, John and Marie purchased Top Hat Bar, which they ran for many years.

John enjoyed playing golf, shooting pool, throwing horseshoes, bowling, and fishing. He loved playing cards with his wife, watching the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers. His best and most cherished moments were spending time with family.

John is survived by his wife, Marie; five children, Linda (Greg) Chase of Stevens Point, Rhody (Jean Jakusz) Mallick of Stevens Point, Karlyn (Kevin) Krautkramer of Stevens Point, Michelle (Robert) Schmidt of Waconia, MN, and John Jay (Kristine) Mallick of Stevens Point. Grandchildren include Shana (Andrew) Halverson, Jaylyn Mallick, Maxwell Schmidt, and Samuel Schmidt. Great-grandchildren include Alexander, Mason, and Elise Halverson. John will be greatly missed by all.

A private family burial will take place at Guardian Angel Cemetery. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Pisarski Funeral Homes & Cremation Center is honored to be assisting the family. For online condolences, please visit www.pisarskifuneralhome.com.

The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to Portage County Home and Heartland Hospice Care for providing care and support to John and his family.
