Creative Art on Display at Ben Franklin Summer School

By Robert Whitmire
Ben Franklin Jr. High students are wrapping up their annual Chalkfest this week — part of the school’s Creative Arts summer program.
The program continues to be among the most popular offerings at the school during summer break, with almost 100 students spread between the two classes taught by Sarah Lynch and Nanciann Hall.
Needlepoint, alcohol ink tiles, acrylic and watercolor painting, wax paper stars, and Scarabocchio were just a few of the projects students worked on.
“We are trying to teach them life skills, as well as art,” Hall said. “Our hope is that someday, they will take their place in the workforce and learning to get along, share, and clean up their work areas are as important as any other job skills they will learn.”
Students are wrapping up their summer school session with an all-school art fair and the annual chalk fest taking place during this final week of school.
