CDS, Joe’s Bar Easy Winners at Doug’s

By Tim “Shoe” Sullivan
Central Door Solutions (7-4) and Joe’s Bar (9-2) had no trouble posting wins Tuesday night at Moore Barn Memorial Park in beautiful downtown Buena Vista.
CDS hammered Papa Joe’s (0-11) 21-1 in a Coed softball game that only lasted three innings due to the time limit. In the nightcap of the “Jim Barden” Coed League at Doug’s Sports Pub, the red-hot Joe’s Bar dispatched Final Score (6-5) 16-1 in five innings.
Both games were pretty much over by the end of the first inning. In the opener, Brandon Wojtalewicz of Papa Joe’s had a one-out single and was promptly erased on a double play (Garrett Karnowski to Brianna Dobbratz to Meg Lee).
The losers only had four hits for the entire game. Meanwhile, the Solutions really came out swinging in the first inning. CDS put seven runs on the board, and the rally featured singles by Abby Rottier, Adam Lee, Brianna Dobbratz, and Julie Johnson plus doubles by Garrett Karnowski, winning pitcher Kyle Brooks, Codi Klismith (on loan from Final Score), and Robby Armatoski. Central Door Solutions continued to pour it on in the second with seven more runs and a 14-0 lead. (The extra points must’ve been good). The seven runs were thanks to singles by Meg Lee, Kyle Brooks, Julie Johnson, Codi Klismith, and Kim Schmitz mixed in with doubles by Robby Armatoski and Adam Lee and a pair of Papa Joe’s errors.
Papa Joe’s scored its lone run in the top of the third when Chelsea Stenzel walked, Scott Schobel was safe on a fielder’s choice, Ashley Radmer singled, and Brandon Wojtalewicz singled to drive home Schobel. Doug’s has a rule which says that a game shall be declared over if one team is leading by 20 runs after three innings.
The Solutions came to bat in the bottom of the third and needed seven more runs to declare the game officially over. They scored seven right on the button. Meg Lee, Kyle Brooks, Codi Klismith, Kim Schmitz, Abby Rottier, Adam Lee, and Brianna Dobbratz each singled and Robby Armatoski unloaded a 3-run bomb to right. 21-1 was the final.
Olivia Pflager made her 2017 debut as guest announcer and was an instant hit. Several broasted chicken dinners from Ryan Drifka of RD’s Diner were awarded to players and fans. Joe Mancheski and TJ Schwebach were onlookers who were amongst the winners. Legendary umpire Jesse Higgins called the balls and strikes, and Emily Dampier was the official base-sweeper. The time of the game was 38 minutes.

Joe’s Bar, the league leader, had an easy time with Jim Billings’ Final Score, and Mr. Billings was on hand to observe the proceedings. Final Score was short on girl players and picked up Abby Rottier, Meg Lee, and Kim Schmitz from CDS. The rest of Final Score’s gals were either injured, at a birthday party, working, or put on waivers. Final Score had five hits in the game.
Joe’s Bar jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first behind singles by Brianna Dobbratz, Chelsea Stenzel, and Casey Kedrowski and doubles by Bailey Hinderman and Travis Kempf. Rob King ignited the rally with a lead-off triple.
The winners got four more runs in the top of the third. Casey Bielen went yard and Brianna Dobbratz, Chelsea Stenzel, and Beke Blue each singled while Travis Kempf and Casey Kedrowski walked. (Kedrowski walked again in the fourth, giving him the league lead with 11).
Sean Stroik’s Joe’s Bar then put the exclamation point on the affair with seven more runs in the top of the fourth to go up 15-0. Kempf’s home run was the big blast, and Casey Bielen doubled. Also chipping in with base hits were Bailey Hinderman, Rob King, Kyle Salzman, and Julie Johnson while Casey Kedrowski and Beke Blue walked.
Final Score got its lone run in the bottom of the fourth thanks to singles by Kassie McGettigen, Meg Lee, and Jake Mortimer. Bielen’s second homer, this time in the fifth, put the score at 16-1 and that’s the way it ended. Jesse Higgins and Bobby Sullivan got the field ready to play as head groundskeeper Chad Newby was on vacation in New York. NOTE: The Tuesday League hasn’t had a rainout all year.
