David C. “Sparky” Helminiak, 60, Stevens Point, died Thursday, July 27, 2017, at his home.

He was born March 21, 1957, in Stevens Point, the son of the late Clarence and Margaret (Ostrowski) Helminiak.

He graduated from St. Peter’s grade school and Pacelli High School in 1975. He received the Eagle Scout award as a member of Boy Scout Troop 290 in 1974 and also was awarded the Ad Altare Dei and Parvuli Dei, which are the highest Catholic Scouting awards.

He entered the U.S. Marine Corps Jan 8, 1976, and was honorably discharged Jan. 7, 1979. He received the Good Conduct Medal and Expert Rifle Badge.

Mr. Helminiak was employed at Consolidated Papers – Wisconsin River Division for more than 30 years and was currently employed by Monogram Appetizers in Plover. He was a past member of the Knights of Columbus, Moose Lodge 1572 and St. Peter Holy Name Society.

He enjoyed spending time with family on Silver Lake in Wautoma and landscaping.

Survivors include two sisters, Mary Jane (Robert) Pliska and Barbara (Gerald) Ksionsk, both of Stevens Point; and eight nieces and nephews; and other extended relatives.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday Aug. 2, 2017 at the Pisarski Funeral Home at 703 Second St. in Stevens Point concluding with military honors.  Deacon Vern Lenzmeier officiating.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.  Pisarski Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family.  For online condolences please visit www.pisarskifuneralhome.com
