City seeks to buy land on east side

By Nathanael Enwald
The Stevens Point City Plan Commission voted Monday, July 24, to recommend approval of purchasing 64 acres of mostly undeveloped land, except for one house, on the eastern city limits on Highway 10 in the town of Hull for a total of $620,000.
The land was previously listed for sale at $795,000 and the home at $300,000, but decreased in price recently which piqued the attention of city officials to bring it to the Plan Commission’s attention. The land is now at $345,000 and the home at $275,000. The 40-acre vacant farmland to the south across Highway 10 is for sale for $1.2 million to $1.3 million.
“There are 64 acres on the east side of town that have been for sale for a while, but asking price has been way high. The price just dropped significantly, so we obtained an option to purchase. That option expires on Aug. 2,” Stevens Point Mayor Mike Wiza said.
