Sister Mary Adalbert Stal, 100

Sister Mary Adalbert Stal celebrated her 100th birthday May 23, 2017, and died Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Willow Brooke Point in Stevens Point.
She was a Sister of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis for 83 years.
Visitation at St. Joseph Motherhouse Chapel, 1300 Maria Drive, Stevens Point, will begin with a prayer service at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday August 1, 2017. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with Rev. Placid Stroik, OFM officiating. Burial will follow in the convent cemetery.
The former Mary Stal was born May 23, 1917 in Meriden, Connecticut, the first of three children of the late Thomas and Sophie (Brudz) Stal. The family later moved to East Chicago, Indiana. Mary was received into the novitiate of the Sisters of St. Joseph-TOSF on August 6, 1934, and professed final vows on August 6, 1941.
Sister Adalbert graduated from St. Joseph Academy, St. Norbert’s College, De Pere and she achieved a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education at Marquette University. Locally, she taught eighth grade for 12 years at St. Peter’s School, where she also prepared many young altar boys for service in the parish.
She taught business courses, was assistant principal, and from 1958 to 1965 was principal of Maria High School. From 1966 until her retirement at St. Joseph Motherhouse in 2004 Sister Adalbert held administrative positions within her religious community at provincial and central board levels in Stevens Point and in South Bend, Indiana.
Survivors include nieces, nephews, and the Sisters of St. Joseph-TOSF. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Sophie Stal; brother, John (Lottie) Stal; sisters, Stephany (William) Bobin, and Stasia Stal.
Memorials may be offered to the Sisters of St. Joseph-TOSF.
