CDS Ends Regular Season on High Note

By Tim “Shoe” Sullivan
Another regular season of coed softball at Doug’s Sports Pub is in the books.
Central Door Solutions (8-4) on Tuesday blew past Final Score (6-6), 20-11, and Joe’s Bar (10-2) easily dispatched Papa Joe’s (0-12), 17-5. The two games at Moore Barn Memorial Park concluded the 2017 regular season. Next up is the League Tournament.
CDS amassed 23 hits en route to their easy win over Final Score. The losers had 16. The Solutions jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. The rally included singles by Meg Lee, Brianna Dobbratz, and Richard Blue plus a double by Garrett Karnowski and Codi Klismith’s triple.
Klismith was traded by Final Score to CDS prior to the game and was sent back to the Score later on. Codi had a career game by smacking two triples, a double, and a homer. He also walked. Central Door Solutions tacked on five more runs in the top of the second.
Abby Rottier, Meg Lee, and Garrett Karnowski each singled while Adam Lee tripled and Klismith rapped a three-run inside-the-park homer. Final Score scored twice in the bottom of the second thanks to singles by Dalton Wriedt and Kelly Arndt. Dalton had a “single cycle” by going four for four with four straight singles.
“My parents were at the game so I wanted to put on a show,” Dalton said.
The Wriedts won broasted chicken dinners from RD’s Diner on Post Road. CDS led 9-2 after two innings.
The Score bounced back with four runs in the bottom of the third to make the score 9-6. Jake Mortimer, Kassie McGettigan, Wriedt, and Kelly Arndt each singled while Bobby Sullivan and Morgan Oppor blasted triples. After Abby Rottier scored a run for CDS in the fourth, the Solutions led 10-6 after four. CDS had a huge fifth inning by coming up with five more runs.
The key hits were singles by Abby Rottier and Karnowski following doubles by Kim Schmitz and Robby Armatoski. Rottier and Karnowski each had four hits during the game. Final Score came up with three runs in the bottom of the fifth when Bobby Sullivan doubled and Morgan Oppor, Wriedt, and Cory Blake all contributed base raps. CDS led 15-9 after five.
The Solutions put the game away in the sixth with five more runs off of three Final Score hurlers. Beke Blue, Richard Blue, Robby Armatoski, Abby Rottier, and Adam Lee each connected for singles while Klismith tripled. Final Score got two runs in the sixth when Jake Mortimer singled (he went three for three) and Kassie McGettigan followed with a two-run inside-the-park homer. The final score was 20-11 in favor of CDS.
In the bottom of the fourth, umpire Jesse “the Legend” Higgins instructed both teams to pick up the pace as he predicted a big storm to hit in ten minutes. Final Score co-manager Morgan Oppor said she could tell by the way the wind was blowing that it wouldn’t rain at all, and she was right.
The Score’s other co-manager, Bobby Sullivan, noted that his team wasn’t overly shaken up by the loss.
“The seeds were already set for the tournament,” he said. “We get the Solutions again in next week’s opening round. I think you’ll see a different outcome.”
