Family Photographer Opens New Downtown Studio

A local family photographer has opened a new studio after making her business a full-time gig.

Splendid Photography by Serena, owned by Serena Sblendorio, moved into her Main St. studio, across from the Central Wisconsin Children’s Museum, about two months ago. Until now, she’s photographed in her home studio since 2010.

A home remodel forced Sblendorio to look for space elsewhere.

“I ended up in the perfect space,” said Sblendorio.

The large, one-room studio is filled with backdrops and props while the floor is tiled with various carpets and flooring which allow for a wide variety of portrait options. Lights and soft boxes of all sizes are available to create the right environment for Sblendorio to shoot.

Sblendorio specializes in infant, children, family, birth and maternity photos, though she does not photograph senior portraits or weddings. She was inspired to become a photographer after a bad experience of getting her own children photographed.

“I said, ‘I never want somebody to have a bad experience,'” she said. “I try always to give the best customer service.”

Sblendorio also has a degree in interpersonal/organizational communication from UW-Stevens Point.

“I didn’t actually think ever that I was going to be a photographer,” said Sblendorio. “I’d always been an artist at heart…because I love children and I love newborns, it was a good fit.”

Prior to opening her downtown studio, Sblendorio worked as district director for Junior Achievement of Portage and Wood Counties. She continues to serve on the board of directors.

Sblendorio also has a history of pro bono work, having taken photos for Stevens Point Fire Department’s fundraiser calendar. Her photos are also exhibited in the maternity ward at Ministry St. Michael’s Hospital.

Splendid Photography by Serena is located at 1100 Main St., Suite 140 in Stevens Point. The museum is available for use by Sblendorio’s clients’ children at no charge.

Sblendorio is available by appointment Monday through Friday and can be reached at 715-252-2352 or through her website.
