Point native Krueger set to lead UWSP men’s hockey team

As one of the youngest college head coaches in the country, Stevens Point native Tyler Krueger will have the opportunity to lead his alma mater and hometown team this season.
The 27-year-old former Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) and University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) standout was named the interim head coach of the UWSP men’s hockey team for the 2017-18 season following the departure of Chris Brooks, who guided the Pointers to the 2016 NCAA Division III National Title during a run of four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.
“It’s a very good program that Chris Brooks has brought back to national prominence, and I’m very excited to have this opportunity so early in my career,” said Krueger. “It’s not something that I expected to happen or envisioned was going to happen, I just try to work hard every day.

“I’m looking forward to the season, and I know the guys feel the same way,” he said. “We have a good class of kids coming in, and the expectation here doesn’t change at all.”
