Matt Harwood hadn’t been out in a kayak before, then came the Midstate Independent Living Consultants (MILC) kayaking event. Now, he can’t get enough of it, and the past three years has participated in the event and has gone out on his own and with friends.

“I look forward to it every year,” he said. “Don’t let your fears bother you; there are one and two person kayaks – you can go with another person if you need to.”

MILC is hosting its 13th annual Adaptive Kayaking event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Mead Park Beach, Stevens Point.

The event started 13 years ago on the philosophy of integration, which is a core value of MILC. MILC provides resources to anyone with physical or mental disabilities to support their day-to-day living goals and self-advocate about relevant life situations.
