The Upper Midwest Power Boat Association (UMPBA) and Bullheads Bar & Grill have teamed up again for the second annual powerboat races, which also will benefit a local fire department.

The event will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at Bullheads Bar & Grill, 3368 Campsite Dr., Stevens Point.

The event, which is free and open to the public and drew in 1,500 spectators last year with 47 racers, according to Bullheads Bar & Grill owner, Jerry Fahrner. He expects about 60 participants in this year’s races and a larger spectator turnout.

“Thirty years ago there used to be boat races at Bukolt Park,” said Fahrner. “We felt it was a great idea to bring it back to the Wisconsin River – last year was our first year, and we had a wonderful turnout even with it raining on and off.”
