Tomorrow River Trail leads to nearby treasures

Living in an area almost always means ignoring some of its best aspects. We tell ourselves we will try that restaurant, that museum, that park next week or next month.

Before we know it, 10 years has gone by. That’s how long it took me to explore the Tomorrow River State Trail, which has a trailhead in Plover and then heads 28.4 miles east to Manawa via Amherst Junction, Scandinavia and Ogdensburg.

This lovely trail is short enough for ambitious folks to head out and back in a single day, but it also provides other options worth exploring. It’s certainly long enough, in whole or part, to tucker out even relatively healthy and fit riders.

The trail’s attractions are worth at least two columns, so this one will be about the first 12 miles or so to Amherst. Because I’ve got some out-of-state spots in the works, I’ll have the second-half sequel to this report in a couple of weeks or so.

Plenty of reasons to head east

To be accurate, my recent trip was actually the second time I’d been on the trail, but the first with a purpose.
