Dewey Home Total Loss to Fire

By Jacob Mathias
A home in the Town of Dewey was completely destroyed in a fire Wednesday morning.
According to Town of Dewey Fire Chief Leroy Pukrop, firefighters and emergency services were dispatched to the 3100 block of Sunset Drive in response to a house fire at about 8 AM.
“When we arrived on scene we had flames coming out of the wall and part of the roof already,” said Pukrop, who commands an all-volunteer fire force. “Which means the rest of the house is probably engulfed inside already at that point.”
He said that his department made it to the home within 10 minutes of being called, but the home burned too quickly to be saved. A pickup truck was also destroyed in the fire.
Three of the home’s seven residents were home when the fire started but no one was injured.
The home is owned by Kevin and Diane Grezenski. Kevin Grezenski said he was shocked when he got the call that his home was on fire.
“I left the house at six this morning and everything was fine,” he said.
Fire crews from Stevens Point, Hull, Rudolph, Rosholt, Mosinee, Park Ridge and Plover all responded to the fire.
“You need the manpower to rehab [firefighters] and you also need the water,” said Prukop, adding Dewey has few hydrants and other departments are able to supply extra water trucks.
The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation though no foul play is suspected.
