Wiza Launches ‘Paint the Plow’ Project

Local elementary schools are teaming up with the City of Stevens Point for a new project called “Paint the Plow”.
Wiza’s office announced the project last week, saying the idea came from Luke Kronstadt, assistant superintendent of streets for the city.
“I wanted to do something that got the kids involved, and thought this would be a fun project for them,” Kronstadt said, adding if the project has public support, it could become an annual event.
Students at each of the schools involved — Madison, Jefferson, McKinley, Washington and Bannach — will be responsible for painting a plow truck blade used for snow removal with any design or theme they chose, Wiza said.
According to a news release from Wiza’s office, the paint will be purchased via a $500 donation from Frank’s Hardware, 5444 Hwy. 10 East. Plow blades will be dropped off at the schools sometime next week.
In his news release, Wiza said the paint jobs would be sealed with a clear coat, but admitted they would “eventually get chipped, and by the end of winter they will likely look rough.”
“But it’ll be fun while it lasts,” Wiza added.
The plows with be reinstalled on trucks that work in each school’s neighborhood, Wiza said.
A formal kickoff is planned for 10:45 AM at Madison Elementary, 600 Maria Dr., on Sept. 8. The public is welcome to attend.
