The SPASH Panthers varsity football team took their third season loss to the Appleton North Lightning.
The Panthers entered Friday’s game after a 28-18 loss to the Kimberly Papermakers the week before. SPASH now stands with a 1-4 record for the season and 0-2 in Wisconsin Valley Football Conference play.
SPASH led the scoring twice in Friday’s game but couldn’t pull ahead in the end. The Panthers scored first at 3:27 in the first quarter after a 15-yard pass reception by senior quarterback Brady Woyak to senior tight end Andrew Erdman. An extra point by senior kicker Keondre Porter gave the Panthers a 7-0 lead.
The Lighting struck soon after with a 7-yard touchdown run by junior running back Ian Laatsch tying the game at 7-7.
The Panthers took the lead again at 8:27 in the second quarter after senior defensive back Lee Goman returned an interception for a TD. Another extra point by Porter brought the score to 14-7.
The Lightning managed to tie the game up again at 7:06 in the second quarter before pulling ahead to the final score of 21-14 in the third.
The Panthers return to Goerke Field at 7 PM on September 15 where they will take on the Marshfield Tigers (2-2).
