A 33-year-old man was convicted on Friday of trading marijuana for sex acts with teenage boys.

West A. Rodriguez, Stevens Point, was arrested in March after being accused of offering three 15-year-old boys marijuana if they allowed him to perform oral sex on them.

According to the complaint, the assaults sometimes occurred when all three boys were simultaneously in Rodriguez’ living room. The boys also slept over at Rodriguez’ apartment on some of those occasions, the complaint says, during which Rodriguez would sometimes attempt to assault the boys while they slept.

The assaults occurred on at least 10 or 11 occasions, the complaint says, after Rodriguez would contact the boys privately on Facebook.

When interviewed by police, Rodriguez admitted he would “hang out” with the boys and provide them with marijuana, but he stopped contacting this boys after claiming they were attempting to blackmail him.

He initially denied any sexual contact, but after detectives showed him the incriminating Facebook messages, Rodriguez admitted to the arrangement, saying he believed the boys were older.

He pleaded no contest to one count of second-degree sexual assault of a child and one count of delivering more than 200 grams of marijuana before Judge Robert Shannon on Sept. 8. Two other counts of second-degree child sex assault, along with two additional counts of delivering marijuana, were dismissed but will be read in for sentencing, according to court records.

Rodriguez faces a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison for the sex assault charge, and three-and-a-half years for the marijuana charge.

He is scheduled for sentencing at 9 AM on Nov. 10.
